Chief Of Sinners

1 Timothy 1:15: This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

1 Corinthians 15:9: For I am the least of the apostles, that am not meet to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

Ephesians 3:8: Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

Philippians 2:3: Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

It should be the belief of every believer that he or she is the chief of sinners. This is so because as we look at the sins of others, we can only see their external sins. We cannot know their sinful thoughts. No one except God and ourselves can know about our sinful thoughts. I believe that Paul*s belief that he was the chief of sinners is what kept him humble before God. I believe that is also what will keep us humble before Him. It will keep us humble like nothing else can. When we believe that we are better than other believers or even just equal to other believers who are obviously serving the Lord much more than we are, that is pride.

1 Peter 5:5: Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

David could not forget about his own sin and that is what kept him humble before God.

Psalms 51:3: For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.

None of us should not forget about our sin either or pretend that we have none.

1 John 1:10: If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

Jeremiah 2:19: Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

The wickedness and backslidings of others won*t necessarily correct or reprove us. We all have a sinful flesh that forsakes God and has no fear of Him. Being aware of our own sin makes us grateful for the greatness of God*s mercy and forgiveness.

Psalms 34:18: The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

If you have never had a broken heart over your own sin, it is hard to believe that you are really saved. It should be hard for you to believe it yourself.
